DCAS Exams

DCAS has published their 2011-2012 exam schedule. Filing starts 7-1-11, computerized testing, walk-in testing held daily for the following titles, all open competitive: Caseworker (2307, and Child Protective Specialist (2308). 

Filing start date 9-7-11: Program Evaluator-ACS (2008)
Filing state date 10-1-11: Caseworker (2314) and Child Protective Specialist (2319)

Health and Safety Evaluations

The Union’s Health and Safety section is working with DC 37 officials as a part of a state mandate to evaluate agencies for workplace violence threats. Members should expect these Union representatives to come to their agencies at some point in the future for a review. 


CASA, the homecare program, is under fire by Governor Cuomo, who’s Medicaid redesign would push more home-based personal care to managed hospital care, resulting in less work for social service workers and less care for the needy.

Layoffs Averted!

On June 29 the City Council approved the Mayor’s budget for 2012 that restored funds for 22 Child Welfare Specialists (CWS), 3 Child Welfare Specialist Supervisors (CWSS), and 1 Congregate Care Worker targeted for lay offs in the Mayor’s budget announced on Friday June 23.

We Said Fight Back!

SSEU Local 371 members were front and center June 14 at the massive fight back rally at City Hall, protesting the proposed layoffs of City workers and roll backs in benefits, pensions and health-care.

Assault Bill Passes the Senate, on hold in the Assembly

As of June 24, the Union-backed Assault Bill passed the Senate and still on hold in the Assembly. Gov. Cuomo is expected to call the Legislation back into session to vote on the rest of the bills, including the Assault Bill.

SSEU Local 371 encourages members to keep the pressure on and call their Assembly Members and urge tem to pass it in the lower house.
