Juan Gonzalez: MRT Plan Hurts Poor, Elderly

New York Daily News columnist Juan Gonzalez has hit another home run with his coverage of the Governor's Medicaid Redesign Team's proposal to eliminate CASA.

CCSW Scholarship Deadline is April 30, 2012

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012-2013 academic year for the Committee of Concerned Social Workers Scholarship and the Sol Gorelick Scholarship. The one-time grants—$2,500 this year—have been awarded to more than 75 members through the years.

Provide for Food Bank

The Union is asking members who are coming to the Union Office for a meeting or any other reason bring non-perishable food items for our holiday food drive. City Harvest will handle the Union’s donations.

Update in the Bell/Adams Case

The Union would like to thanks all of our members who came out Nov. 16 to support our former members Chereece Bell and Damon Adams, who are unfairly being prosecuted in the tragic death of Marcella Pierce, who was under Administration for Children’s Services’ supervision.

Anthony Wells Goes to Washington

Joe Biden

SSEU Local 371 President Anthony Wells was chosen as a representative of the New York American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees community for a labor panel at the White House Nov. 2 with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden to discuss the Jobs Bill. Wells said, "It was a huge honor to be in the presence of this President.

Snow Day Arbitration

The arbitration case between the Union and the City over docked pay and sick days for the December snow day has been moved to Feb. 2, 2012.

Any workers who worked that day or used Access-a-Ride and are willing to submit their testimony are encouraged to contact Vice President of Grievances and Legal Services Lloyd Permaul.
