Nocera: Turning Our Backs on Unions

New York Times columnist Joe Nocera had a great piece about the role of unions in America, and how society has turned its back on the main vehicle for the middle class in this country.

Support DC 1707 on Thursday

The Union is calling on members to attend a rally to stop Mayor Michael Bloomberg's child-care cuts. The rally will be led by our sisters and brothers in District Council 1707 and take place at City Hall Park at 11 a.m., May 31. 

Commissioner Announces No Layoffs in ACS

Commissioner Ronald Richter testified before the City Council May 22 that there will not be any layoffs in ACS. Twenty six Child Welfare Specialists restored to Fiscal Year 2012 by the City Council were not restored to the Fiscal Year 2013 budget. The Commissioner was questioned by Finance Chairman, Domenick Recchia as to the status of the 26 workers.

The Lobby Day in Albany

On Tuesday, May 1st around 700 DC 37 members, including many SSEU 371 members boarded busses for the Lobby Day in Albany. While on the road the members were told that there was an electricity blackout in the capital.
