AFSCME Convention News

Elections are underway this morning, July 1, at the 39th International AFSCME Convention in Boston.  Three candidates are vying for the position of International Secretary-Treasurer .  Listed in alphabetical order, they are:  Danny Donohue, President, Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA)/AFSCME Local 1000 (NY) and International Vice President; Mark Foley, President, Local 2019 (CA Council 57), and Lee Saunders, Executive Assistant to the International President. 

Convention Delegates attended Special Caucuses yesterday on "Busting the Myths About Public Service Workers."  The 21 simultaneously held caucuses were divided into work-related groups, including Child Welfare, Corrections, Public Assistance, and others. 

Workers from other states expressed concerns familiar to workers in NYC, including high caseloads, understaffing, and the disconnect between producing statistical results and actually helping people in need.
